Clowns, Charlatans and Colorful Characters, Volume 2

By Peter Grant

Comedy & satire, Short stories | eBook

Even with perfectly shaped, muscular shoulders it’s no small burden being the best looking man on the planet. I know what you’re thinking, “HA—good looking = easy sex.” Alas, Gentle Reader there’s more to it, as you will learn as you absorb the fragrant prose contained between these electronic covers. These pages concern Stinky (né Edgar) Carter, the person with the aforementioned, perfect shoulders and his many friends, relatives and adversaries. He wears a 42-regular if you’re thinking of knitting him a sweater. While it’s true that good-looking people are attracted to other good-looking people, so are colorful characters, clowns and charlatans. Stinky tackles more than his share of such folk in these tales, including a prep school headmaster who prefers naps to academics, a fabulously wealthy, four-times widowed woman (don’t be sad, they all died happy) who styles herself the “People’s Princess” of the arts, several of her proletariat protégées, all of whose artistic endeavors are of questionable taste, a purveyor of technologically advanced underwear plus assorted thugs, a hopeless romantic whose head looks like a joint project by Brancusi and Braque and a sexually adventurous...sorry, that could be any of the ones already mentioned. Two stories, “It’s Stinky at the Lake” and “Stinky Underwear” are short, peppy tales with overlapping casts that are only available in this collection. Eddie’s fans will be pleased that he finally gets some sexy undies. Getting the recipes for the cocktails served at the fifth nuptials of the “People’s Princess” is worth the price of the book, and they’re yours if you go to the “Contact Us” page of the website. That’s a hint it’s time to stop reading for free. If you’re still not convinced, there’s also a Loch Ness monster, but, that’s all you’re getting out of me right now.

J. K. Rowling claims that the Harry Potter stories popped into her head in a flash. Peter Grant makes the same claim about Stinky and the familiar, yet not quite real world he lives in. Stinky's world always has happy endings, which isn't the case with ours. Our world may be sadder than Stinky's, but his world brightens ours.
