Secrets of the Realm

By Bev Stout

Young adult, Historical fiction, Action & adventure | Paperback, eBook, Audiobook

Blamed for her uncle’s death, fifteen-year-old Annie has no choice but to run away. Knowing the dangers she will face on the streets of eighteenth century London, Annie disguises herself as a boy. Her life changes course when she becomes cabin boy on the merchant ship, the Realm. Not only must Annie work alongside the ship’s motley crew of outcasts and gentlemen, she must also keep her superstitious shipmates from discovering she is a girl. Despite the hardships she faces, Annie vows she will never leave the Realm, where dreams are chased, shattered lives can mend and secrets are stowed like keepsakes in an old desk drawer. But when Annie’s past catches up with her, can she stay on the Realm and more importantly, will she have a choice?

Bev Stout grew up in San Leandro, California, where her love of the sea began. One of her earliest memories is taking the ferry, with her parents and brother, across the bay to San Francisco. Now living in Arizona, she vacations on the California coast in the town of Cambria, where she watches seals and otters play in the surf, and going out on the ocean to whale watch. She is married, has two children, six grandchildren, a rescue dog and a cat.
