The Best Looking Man on the Planet, Volume 1

By Peter Grant

Comedy & satire, Short stories | eBook

This collection unites some of Stinky and Eddie’s early adventures. By the end of the volume it should be clear that both are of sound mind, so when it gets crazier in later volumes, you’ll know it isn’t their fault. The fun begins when a minor burglary changes the lives of the burgled (Stinky Carter) and the investigating officer (Eddie Morrissey). Eddie’s life wasn’t entirely miserable before he met Stinky, but it got a lot more interesting afterwards (“Stinky’s Stolen Heart”) and he even gets a nickname that is as bad as Stinky. Stinky realizes that they have to meet each other’s parents before getting on with the rest of their lives (“Stinky and the Allegorical Breasts”), but an elusive, nude painting of Stinky’s sister prevents the Carter family from fully embracing Eddie until he unveils the truth. Once they’ve neutralized the parental controls, the boys buy a condo (“Stinky and the Cold Toilet Confession”) and Stinky starts his own boutique legal and wealth management firm (“Stinky’s Cash Floes”). Eddie manages to adjust to all of these big, life-changing events but he’s not sure he can face a sprawling, seaside cottage crammed to the eaves with Stinky relatives (“It’s Stinky at the Beach”) and finds out that Stinky’s family can also get into trouble on dry land (“Stinky Secrets”). Eddie does fine with the Carters, but not so well as a cook (“Stinky’s Best Worst Birthday”) or Internet sensation (“Eddie the Reluctant Celebrity”). You have to pay for the book to get the skinny on his fans’ Photoshop porn website. The final story, “Stinky News at Eleven” gives a glimpse of the madcap guest stars that appear in future volumes. Eddie gets sucked into real and imagined conspiracies when an eager, but English-challenged TV reporter stumbles into a sizzling pu-pu platter of trouble in old Chinatown.
