The Templar Paradox

By Jon Champs

Crime & mystery, Thriller, Historical fiction | eBook

Seven hundred years ago a group of Templar Knights flee, on secret orders to carry a rediscovered holy relic of vast power and hide it. They escape and create a new home, secretly creating a vast monument to the relic nobody but they know exists. In the present Jake Sheridan a partly disgraced history lecturer runs away from his own problems by moving to France. Before he knows it his life is turned upside down as he finds himself embroiled in a struggle to understand a string of murders going back 70 years, a deeply personal challenge he never envisioned and a host of gossip hungry British Ex-Pats who'll make his life a misery for their own amusement. Torn and driven at the same time, his sense of justice, reality and what’s right catapults him into a complex web of living history, avarice and naked ambition. As the body count mounts and the plot thickens, can Jake find the answers before the devastating consequences of past actions play out?

Jon Champs is in his fifties, recently married to the love of his life. Having worked in automotive for 20 years at manufacturer head offices he semi-retired in order to do what he had always wanted - write books. Deeply interested in history and the causes and motivations that have driven so much of our past, he seeks to understand how those events have come to mould our present attitudes and actions. He's particularly interested in the technologies and beliefs that have been lost yet may prove useful in our world today, either as educative warnings or as practical reality. The Jake Sheridan mysteries are intended to deal with current events from an alternate slant, to put the lead characters in places and environments that are entirely conceivable and using real places and events - some disguised some not, to add the punch that delivers a complex but often moving plot. Jon's one personal comment that he thinks is his weakness and his strength; "I simply have to know everything about a subject I'm interested in. I can't know a little, or some, it has to be everything". He lives happily with his family in the UK.
