Jon Hasan Rizvi (formerly, Mumtazul Islam) Diploma, 1st class first, and Masters, 1st class first, in Library Science, Library School, University of Karachi, Pakistan. With equal command of the English, Persian, and Urdu languages, Jon has translated articles from Persian into Urdu in the areas of art and culture and written vernacular short stories and English-language articles published in prominent magazines and newspapers of Pakistan, such as Akhbar-i-Jahan (weekly), Bisvin Sadi (monthly), Pakistan Review (monthly), and Society & Screen (monthly). He has also served as the executive editor of Society & Screen. As a freelance journalist, he has contributed reviews of Pakistani television programs to the Weekly Mail, a popular English-language evening newspaper. He has also contributed articles to Books & Authors, the weekly magazine of Dawn, a widely circulated English-language daily newspaper in Pakistan. He is a former librarian with the Library of Congress Office, Pakistan and the Smithtown Library, Suffolk County, New York, and a former chief librarian at Bait al-Hikma, Hamdard University Libraries, Pakistan. He served as the acting field director of the LC Field Office. Jon also served as the vice president and then president of the United States Government Pakistani Employees Association (USGPEA) at the American Consulate General, Karachi. At the Library of Congress Office, his responsibilities included identification, acquisition, and processing of printed and non-printed materials from Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan for the Library of Congress, Washington and more than two dozen American university and research libraries. He reviewed, annotated, and recommended material for acquisition and subsequently cataloged materials, specializing in Dari and Persian materials. Discourses in the Persian language were common among his family and relatives. His late father, Syed Badrul Islam Rizvi, was the principal of Mansabia Arabic School, Meerut, India (presently Mansabia Arabic College), and an expert in Arabic and Persian languages. The 2004 and 2011 editions of Who’s Who in Library and Information Science in Pakistan list Jon’s complete biographical data.
