I was born in Derbyshire, in the heart of England in 1953. My father was a coal miner, and my mother worked at several jobs to give my brother and myself a wonderful and secure upbringing. My affinity for all things artistic began at a very early age, I was sketching and painting in infants school and found I could get a tune out of most musical instruments by the age of 10. At sixteen I toured with a band, and music dominated my life from then onward. A vivid imagination and the aptitude for story telling led me to write my first novel in the nineteen seventies. I wrote several short stories after that, none that were published as I wrote them for pleasure only. However in 2007 and getting too old for gigging, I decided to rewrite the novel. Zoo was a concept that had been with me for over thirty years. Sadly my partner died in 2011 and my love of art took a plunge. Eventually I began to write again and found it was helping me through my grief. So far, as of June 2014, I have written four novels and one non fiction book. This book is about Bolsover, the town I grew up in. I enjoyed the research and diversion it provided whilst finding my 'new normal' after being alone. I try to write so that the reader can relate and empathise with the characters. They are simple, untwisting plots which I am told flow easily. I sincerely hope you enjoy my work. I thank you for taking the time to read this little insight.
